i hope this isn’t part of some college curricula
basically it sounds like a generic motivator to get student athletes to do well in sports, and pass their classes.
which is the cynical, and probably best approach,
but it also is sort of trying to appeal to ones sense of greatness and motivate one to do the best they can in a particular endeavor.
